Move from Anki and AnKing-format decks
Export your decks from Anki as an .apkg file, or your whole collection as a .colpkg backup, with scheduling information included. In MedCards, open Library › Import and pick the file. Your cards, review history, suspensions, tags and personal fields come with it. Anki, AnkiMobile, AnkiDroid and AnkiHub are names of their owners; MedCards is not affiliated with them and imports only files you own.
Steps and questions
How do I export a deck from Anki on my computer?
In Anki on your computer, choose Export, pick Anki Deck Package (.apkg), choose the deck, and turn on the option to include scheduling information. Save the file and open it in MedCards with Library › Import.
How do I export from AnkiMobile or AnkiDroid?
Use the export option of the app to save an .apkg or .colpkg file with scheduling information, then open the file with MedCards on the same device, or move it to your computer and import it there.
How do I bring a deck that I get through AnkiHub?
AnkiHub decks live in Anki on your computer. Sync the deck there first, then export it from Anki as an .apkg file with scheduling information and import it in MedCards. MedCards keeps the AnkiHub tags as your personal tags.
Can I import a full Anki backup?
Yes. A .colpkg file is a backup of your whole collection. Import it in MedCards and every deck comes in with its history. A backup that Anki made automatically works the same way.
Does my review history come with me?
Yes, when the export includes scheduling information. MedCards replays your answers so the next due dates continue from your Anki history. Suspended cards stay suspended.
What happens to my personal fields?
Fields such as Lecture Notes, Missed Questions and Personal Notes become your personal fields. A later update of the deck never writes them.
What happens to AnkiHub tags?
Your tags stay as personal tags. Tags that MedCards can read become topic links in your library; links that it is not sure about wait for you on the import review screen. Resource tags become private links that only you see.
How do monthly updates of an AnKing-format deck work?
Import the new version of the same deck. MedCards updates the notes that you did not edit, adds new notes and cards, and keeps your history, suspensions, tags, personal fields and protected fields. Notes that the new version removes go to the retired filter, and you decide what to do with them.
